Invoice of free items

My business usually sends out free samples of our products to our customers (no payment needed). How to setup payment type for free samples since I want to keep track of my inventory? I am thinking of using 100% discount, but I need to be able to see a list of free samples I have sent in a month. Thank you.

edit: is it possible to have one more paid status: free?
