id like to create a promotion whereby adding one item will trigger a discount on a different product, is there currently any way of implementing this?

  Hi Steve, 

  Unfortunately, this kind of promotion does not exists, all you can do is assign quantity promotion to a group, as described here, but it will trigger promotion for any item in a group.
