How does auto reading of RFID number work?

In the FAQ, it said the RFID card number will be read automatically when the cursor focus is on the input box and card is presented to the reader. I tried but no number was read. Which data block should the number be written to in the RFID card? I am using ACR122U and Mifare 1k card. Thanks a lot.
