Limit the number of items of a category that a customer can buy

Hello all,

I wanted to enquire if it is possible to set up customer-wise limits on various items.

For e.g. If I have products in categories A, B and C and Customer X. I want the ability to allow X to buy 2 products each from category A, B and C respectively and not more than that. If X tries to buy any more than what's allowed then the system should notify me. Is such a system possible?
