This guide explains how to move from Aronium Lite to Aronium Pro.
Aronium Lite and Aronium Pro use different databases. Because of this, Aronium Pro must be installed and set up separately, and your existing Lite data must be copied to the Pro database using the Data Migration tool.
Before you begin
Aronium Pro will start with an empty database. Your Lite database is not automatically upgraded or replaced during installation.
To continue working with your existing products, customers, inventory, and sales data in Aronium Pro, you must migrate the data after Pro is installed.
What will be migrated?
The Data Migration tool is used to copy data from your Aronium Lite database to your Aronium Pro database.
Depending on your database and configuration, this may include data such as:
- Products and product categories
- Customers
- Inventory and stock quantities
- Sales history and documents
- Taxes, discounts, and other related business data
Important
Plugins, plugin settings, printer settings, connected devices, and some local workstation settings may need to be configured again in Aronium Pro.
Recommended migration order
To upgrade from Aronium Lite to Aronium Pro, please complete the steps below in this order:
- Update and open Aronium Lite
- Back up your Aronium Lite database
- Install and set up Aronium Pro
- Install required plugins for Aronium Pro
- Run the Data Migration tool
- Review and verify migrated data
- Set up each cash register or workstation
- Keep your Lite backup until you confirm everything is working correctly
Step 1: Update and open Aronium Lite
Before creating a backup or migrating your data, make sure Aronium Lite is updated to the latest available version.
After updating, open Aronium Lite at least once and confirm that it starts normally. This allows Aronium Lite to complete any required database updates before the backup and migration are performed.
Once Aronium Lite opens successfully, close it before continuing.
Why is this step important?
Migrating from an outdated Lite database can cause migration issues. Updating Lite first helps make sure the source database is in the expected format.
Step 2: Back up your Aronium Lite database
Before proceeding, create a backup of your current Aronium Lite database.
Follow this guide:
https://help.aronium.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002769089-Backup-database
Keep your data safe!
This is the most important step. As long as you have your Aronium Lite database backup, your data is safe.
You will need this backup if you want to restore Lite later, repeat the migration, or recover data if something does not migrate as expected.
Backup recommendations
- Save the backup file somewhere easy to find, such as your Desktop or Documents folder.
- Copy the backup to an external drive or another computer.
- Do not delete the backup after migration.
- Keep Aronium Lite installed until you confirm that Aronium Pro is working correctly.
Step 3: Install and set up Aronium Pro
Download and install Aronium Pro, then complete the initial setup.
Follow this guide:
https://help.aronium.com/hc/en-us/articles/30156389965458-Setting-up-Aronium-Pro
Please note that Aronium Lite and Aronium Pro use different databases. When Aronium Pro is first installed, it will start with a new empty database.
Aronium Pro database setup
Aronium Pro uses a database server so that multiple cash registers or workstations can connect to the same central database.
To be able to use multiple computers, workstations or cash registers later, install and configure the Pro database on the computer that will act as the server first.
Before continuing
Make sure that:
- Aronium Pro is installed successfully.
- The Pro database has been created.
- You can open Aronium Pro and log in.
- Your store has been created in Aronium Pro.
- Aronium Pro is closed before running the Data Migration tool.
Step 4: Install required plugins for Aronium Pro
If you were using any plugins with Aronium Lite, they must be installed again for Aronium Pro.
Plugin installations are separate between Lite and Pro, even when the plugin functionality is the same.
Examples of plugins or integrations that may need to be installed or configured again include:
- Print stations and kitchen printers
- Email reporting
- Electronic invoice integrations
- Any other optional Aronium plugins used in Lite
Do this before testing Pro
Some features may appear to be missing after migration if the required plugin has not been installed in Aronium Pro.
Step 5: Migrate your data
Use the Data Migration tool to transfer your data from Aronium Lite to Aronium Pro.
Instructions can be found here:
https://help.aronium.com/hc/en-us/articles/360016060619-Data-migration
The migration tool copies data from the Lite database into the Pro database. It does not convert the Lite installation itself into Pro.
Before running migration
Confirm the following:
- You have created a backup of your Aronium Lite database.
- Aronium Lite is updated to the latest version.
- Aronium Lite was opened successfully after the update.
- Aronium Pro is installed and set up.
- You can open and log in to Aronium Pro.
- Aronium Pro is closed before starting the migration.
Running the migration
- Download and open the Data Migration tool.
- Select your Aronium Lite database as the source database.
- Select your Aronium Pro database as the destination database.
- Follow the instructions shown in the migration tool.
- Wait until the migration process is complete.
- When migration is finished, open Aronium Pro and review the migrated data.
Do not interrupt the migration
Do not turn off the computer, close the migration tool, or restart Windows while migration is in progress.
Step 6: Review migrated data in Aronium Pro
After migration is complete, open Aronium Pro and carefully check that your data was copied correctly.
We recommend checking the following:
- Products
- Product categories
- Product prices
- Taxes
- Customers
- Inventory and stock quantities
- Users and permissions
- Sales history
- Payment types
- Receipt layout and print settings
- Plugins and plugin settings
Recommended test sale
Before using Aronium Pro in your live business workflow, create a test sale to confirm that:
- Products can be added to the sale.
- Prices and taxes are calculated correctly.
- Payment methods work as expected.
- Receipts print correctly.
- Cash drawer, barcode scanner, printer, scale, or other hardware works correctly.
Tip
If you create a test sale, make sure to cancel it, void it, or otherwise handle it according to your normal accounting procedure.
Step 7: Set up additional cash registers or workstations
If you are using Aronium Pro with multiple cash registers, install Aronium Pro on each workstation and connect each workstation to the Pro database server. Detailed instructions can be found at https://help.aronium.com/hc/en-us/articles/30156389965458-Setting-up-Aronium-Pro#install-aronium-on-cash-register.
Each cash register may also need its own local configuration, such as:
- Printer setup
- Cash drawer setup
- Barcode scanner setup
- Scale or hardware setup
- Receipt layout
- Local plugin settings
- User login and permissions
After setting up each workstation, perform a quick test to confirm that it can connect to the Pro database and complete normal POS operations.
Step 8: Keep your Lite backup
After confirming that Aronium Pro is working correctly, keep your Aronium Lite backup in a safe place.
We recommend keeping the backup for as long as you may need historical access to the original Lite database.
Do not delete Lite immediately
Keep Aronium Lite and your Lite database backup until you are completely sure that all required data has been migrated and verified in Aronium Pro.
Troubleshooting
Aronium Pro crashes on startup
If Aronium crashes after installing or opening Aronium Pro, some old plugins from Aronium Lite may still be present on the computer.
In this case, uninstall the existing plugins and then try opening Aronium Pro again.
You can uninstall plugins by following this guide:
https://help.aronium.com/hc/en-us/articles/4413727049234-Uninstall#how-to-uninstall-a-plugin
You can install plugins again later
Uninstalling plugins does not prevent you from using them in Aronium Pro. After Aronium Pro opens successfully, you can install the required plugins again at any time.
After uninstalling the plugins, restart your computer and open Aronium Pro again. If Aronium Pro opens correctly, install only the plugins you need for Pro and test the application after each plugin installation.
Aronium Pro opens with an empty database
This is expected before migration. Aronium Lite and Aronium Pro use different databases, so Pro starts with a new empty database after installation.
Run the Data Migration tool to copy your Lite data to the Pro database.
Some features are missing in Pro
If a feature was provided by a plugin in Aronium Lite, install the same plugin again for Aronium Pro.
After installing the plugin, restart Aronium Pro and check the feature again.
Migration fails or shows an error
If migration fails, try the following:
- Make sure Aronium Lite is updated to the latest version.
- Open Aronium Lite once after updating, then close it.
- Make sure Aronium Pro is installed and can open successfully.
- Close Aronium Pro before running the Data Migration tool.
- Run the Data Migration tool again.
- Make sure you are using the correct Lite source database and Pro destination database.
If the issue continues, contact Aronium support and include the error message shown by the migration tool.
Products migrated, but stock quantities look incorrect
Check inventory and stock reports in both Lite and Pro. If the values do not match, do not continue using Pro for live sales until the issue is reviewed.
Keep your Lite backup and contact support if you are unsure whether inventory was migrated correctly.
Printers or cash drawer do not work after migration
Printer, cash drawer, and other hardware settings may need to be configured again on each Pro workstation.
Review your hardware settings in Aronium Pro and perform a test print before using the system for live sales.
Rollback: What if I need to go back to Lite?
If you need to return to Aronium Lite, you can continue using your existing Lite installation or restore your Lite database from the backup created before migration.
This is why it is important to keep your Lite backup even after migration is complete.
Important rollback note
Sales or changes made in Aronium Pro after migration are not automatically copied back to Aronium Lite.
If you continue working in Pro and later decide to return to Lite, any new Pro activity may need to be handled manually.
