Aronium Pro is using one database for multiple computers. A computer where database is installed is referred to as a server. If you wish to move the database to another computer, so that other computer becomes the server, please follow the steps below.
- Step 1: Database backup
- Step 2: Copy the backup to the new server
- Step 3: Install database server on new computer
- Step 4: Restore database
- Step 5: Connect other computers to the new server
Step 1: Database backup
First thing to do is to create a database backup on the current server. You can do that by following instructions at https://help.aronium.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002769089-Backup-database.
Step 2: Copy the backup to the new server
You will need a backup file created in previous step on the new computer. You can simply copy it there by using USB flash drive or a shared folder in the network.
IMPORTANT!
Database backup must be placed in the folder outside your user restricted directories. Don't place the database backup on your Desktop or Downloads folder. The recommendation is to place it in the root of C:\ drive of the new server.
Step 3: Install database server on new computer
You need to install the database server on the new computer. You can do that by running full Aronium setup. Make sure you select "SQL Server" during setup so the database server is installed (see screenshot below).
Complete the setup and create an empty database (you will overwrite it later with previously created backup).
You can find detailed instructions on how to install Aronium Pro with database server at https://www.aronium.com/download/Aronium_Networking_Setup_Instructions.pdf .
Step 4: Restore database
Now that you have new database server setup up, you need to restore the database backup you created in step 1 and copied over to the new server in step 2.
You can restore previously created backup by following instructions at https://help.aronium.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003477932-Restore-database.
Step 5: Connect other computers to the new server
Finally, you need to change the connection on all cash registers to use the new database server. You can change Settings > Database section by selecting new server and new (restored) database.
You can change the database server by 1) clicking refresh button on the right side of the Server box and selecting the new server computer or 2) manually typing in computer name with the database instance name.
TIP
These values must be the same as the ones on your new server computer.
After you change the server name, make sure to refresh the list of the databases (click refresh button next to the Database box) and select the database you created in step 3.
Once you have server and database selected, you will need to restart Aronium for new connection to take effect.
